Kicking A$$ and Taking Names: How Ed's Gonna Win the Fight Against Heart Disease
What’s up guys? If you’ve been following us on our Facebook and Instagram, you’ll see we’ve posted some updates about Ed’s recent triple bypass heart surgery. He went in on Monday 1/14 and we thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers. The boss is out of surgery and he’s doing well, again we thank everyone for their support during this time.
Here's a little message from Ed from the ICU bed after his surgery:
This moment caught us by surprise and really got us thinking about how important it is for us take care of our heart and overall health. You can’t keep hustling if you ain’t healthy enough to even walk out the door. Here’s some tips on how to keep your heart healthy:
- Get Regular Check-Ups: Here’s the truth, sometimes you just don’t know. You can feel great and look great but you won’t know the real score with your heart (and just everything internal) until you get it checked out. Get regular check-ups if you can to make sure everything’s in order. It’ll also give you peace of mind.
- Move that a$$! If you’re in the pest control business, you’re probably already moving around a lot, and that’s good but it’s better if we introduce some form of regular exercise into our daily routine - specifically strength training and stretching, flexibility and balance as suggested by researchers at Johns Hopkins. No need to get to the gym for this one. Buy a couple of dumbbells or do some push-ups, squats and chin-ups around twice a week to work on your strength. For stretching, flexibility and balance exercises, that’s what YouTube is for. Look up a couple videos and you can do it right at home. Just take a look at Ed already walking around the house a couple of days after surgery:
- Watch What You Eat! We don’t need to tell you that a Quarter Pounder, milkshake and extra fries might not be a good idea. Cutting down on processed foods, carbs and lots of sugar will help out with your general health (and if you wanna drop a couple of pounds). But you also wanna stock up on high fiber foods like carrots, celery, whole grains, apples and citrus fruits. It’s going to give you more energy throughout the day and lower your cholesterol. And, since high fiber foods stay in your body longer, you don’t feel like you gotta eat, eat, eat all the time.
- Don’t Stress Out! No one likes stress, it’s not good for your health and it’s not good for your work either. Everyone thinks if you’re not stressed then you’re not working hard enough, but that just ain’t true. Being stressed can affect your productivity, not just your blood pressure. If you’re not thinking straight because of stress, you’re not operating at the maximum level you can. If you feel like stress is getting to you, try out some breathing exercises and meditation.
Let’s do this, we’re going to work harder at keeping our heart healthy and hope you’ll work along with us.
We also want to give a special Thank You! to all the doctors, nurses and caretakers at Maimonides in Brooklyn. You are true heroes and we salute you!
