Ed and Joe cover current events. Events in the nation and in their relationship. From employee engagement and holiday get togethers, covid testing and colonoscopies. Nothing is off limits in this one. And listen out for one of Ed's best "it may be time for assisted living" moments
[00:00:00] [00:00:00] you hear me? You hear me?
[00:00:07] I just said that. I just said that
[00:00:17] what's up.
[00:00:21] Oh shit.
[00:00:25] I, you passed your COVID test. I did,
[00:00:33] because I got to blow my nose. I got it. COVID right. know. First you had to have the COVID test to get your pipes checked out. Yeah. What was the second? why did you get a second COVID test ed, hold on. We got to sign on.
[00:00:56] Joe Sheehan: [00:00:56] Mr and Mrs. America this is Joey [00:01:00] formerly Joey bonds. Haven't seen IES since, Saturday at the holiday.
[00:01:06] Ed Sheehan: [00:01:06] Yes. Let me go sign off, mr. Mrs. America, all the ships at sea is ed Sheeran for college confidential.
[00:01:14]
[00:01:14] welcome to another episode of colony confidential?
[00:01:20]Joe Sheehan: [00:01:20] . Cool. Good to see you, sir. So lot going on some new COVID stuff going on possible shutdowns. The world's going to hell in a hand basket for the second time in nine months.
[00:01:32]Ed Sheehan: [00:01:32] Oh, did you have a good time
[00:01:33] Joe Sheehan: [00:01:33] at the
[00:01:33] Ed Sheehan: [00:01:33] party?
[00:01:35] Joe Sheehan: [00:01:35] I had a great time, the party was a great time.
[00:01:38]
[00:01:38] it was something that was needed. The, it was not an easy decision. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision for you to go. it, wasn't an easy decision for us to do it, but I just felt like how in the hell can we ask these people to continue to go to work every day, go into [00:02:00] extremely, High risk situations in hospitals and in health care as it is.
[00:02:07] Yeah. and look, we're following all the proper PPE and everything, but how can I say, Hey ed, I know that you service the hospital five days a week. but we're not going to have this company meeting because of COVID how did, what kind of message do you put forward to the team?
[00:02:24] It was tough though, because
[00:02:26] Ed Sheehan: [00:02:26] You put a message that you're a candy asTs
[00:02:29] Joe Sheehan: [00:02:29] To a certain extent. Yes. And there's a lot of potential fallout from this, and it's one,
[00:02:36] it wasn't an easy decision, but I need morale to at least be somewhat, I can't have it being bad.
[00:02:43] And, I think it was great. It further reminded me and Chris, why we do team member engagement or employee engagement, . But why we started focusing heavy on this about five or six years [00:03:00] ago,
[00:03:00] new people to the company even came in Monday and Tuesday and were like, I really wasn't expecting it to be.
[00:03:06]that much of a family. And it's because they started work for us during COVID. So none of them had ever experienced even a company meeting where we are all together face to face, because there's a ton of camraderie when we get together that doesn't come across on a zoom company meeting. There's not the joking nothing like that. So you were there, you witnessed how many people were actually
[00:03:33] hugging.
[00:03:34] And there was a lot of love at that event and it just drove home. The fact that it was definitely the right decision and, we're going to ride the rest of 2020 out on a high, it doesn't matter that the team, everybody in each department is.
[00:03:51] Is thrilled everybody that was there. They had such a great time. certain people
[00:03:56] that are
[00:03:56] like hard
[00:03:57] hardasses,
[00:03:59] one of them, [00:04:00] I think he hugged and kissed everybody.
[00:04:03] Ed Sheehan: [00:04:03] Yeah.
[00:04:04]Joe Sheehan: [00:04:04] So it was, it was just really good. It was the most expensive holiday dinner ever.
[00:04:09] And I just,
[00:04:11]Ed Sheehan: [00:04:11] cause I had too many drinks,
[00:04:16]
[00:04:16] yeah.
[00:04:16] So after I went downstairs, I thought Michael was coming down. I was going to give him a lift home. Then he didn't come down. I said oh what the hell I walked around, wall street and where me and grandpa used to work. And across the street from that building, we got on the contract. I just set up.
[00:04:36] I started to feel
[00:04:53], I started to feel like it was Christmas.
[00:04:55]then I walked down. I had to [00:05:00] go down . Rector Street by Trinity Church. I think this guy was having his way with some woman up against the wall there.
[00:05:09] Joe Sheehan: [00:05:09] Alright, thanks for that.
[00:05:11]Ed Sheehan: [00:05:11] I kept walking. I didn't stop to, take a good look.
[00:05:14] Joe Sheehan: [00:05:14] So you got your call on us. Oh, you got your COVID tests for the pipe cleaning two weeks ago. And then you got one week. Why did you get one this week Sheehan?
[00:05:25]Ed Sheehan: [00:05:25] Just to be sure that,
[00:05:27] because everybody is everybody, you talked to
[00:05:30] all, you
[00:05:30] went out, Oh my friend, I won't mention his name, but you know who he is.
[00:05:35] His wife told him that, we shouldn't go into the, restaurant for breakfast . so, okay. he was going to get food and we were going to eat my car. I told them I'm not eating in the car. I said, in a restaurant we're probably two and a half feet apart in the car we're right on top of each other.
[00:05:55] So we can't go now for breakfast. However, [00:06:00] my friend, the young youthful and vibrant Norman Ruth. We had breakfast yesterday and him and, Jeff, they don't care. I told you my kid next week, if they're closed down indoor dining, it's a shitstorm. If you're gonna, stay in and do nothing and suck your thumb and eat yourself up.
[00:06:26] Yeah, that's fine too.
[00:06:27] And I think if your line of work or your life allows for you to do that, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I just feel that we are We are essential frontline workers, right? without pest control, hospitals will be worried way more the other diseases that pest cause than covid it's a fact, it would be a different worry, but it'd be a serious concern I can't say this enough to have your company and your team doing this day [00:07:00] in and day out for nine months and to keep using COVID as a reason, not to do stuff for them. Is bad for morale. It's bad for business, right? The Summer n barbecue, they canceled it literally seven days beforehand, it was going to be at Belmont.
[00:07:17]. I just, it was a tough decision.
[00:07:20] And literally up until Friday, There were conversations around, is this the right thing? And it wasn't because we didn't know.
[00:07:28] This person is saying, do you think that's a good thing to do? Oh, you got to do it in Manhattan. Oh, this that how's everybody going to get there? What if this, what if that all the bullshit noise, right? That as a business owner, you have to realize really as a person, right? But you have to realize what to listen to and the rest you got to block out, and any time you hear something like this, you should immediately fucking block it out.
[00:07:53] Anytime you hear that squeaky bullshit just don't listen.
[00:07:57] when everybody's saying is shit. Every place you [00:08:00] turn, you get mad. That's what I did. I'm like, fuck it. Then you can tell him, I don't feel any different than I felt Saturday. Oh, it takes seven to 10 days before it attacks you.
[00:08:10] And I feel like Neville Chamberlain. Remember him? Yeah. I feel like I'm waving a piece of paper peace in our time. And he got hit
[00:08:23] Joe Sheehan: [00:08:23] So Ed was forced to get the COVID test. Come on, man. I got to pull these things out of you.
[00:08:28]
[00:08:28]
[00:08:28] It wasn't your choice. What'd you say? I said, so when are you going for your colonoscopy? And I figured it's about six years. I think, , I believe he was supposed to get it when you're around forties now, .
[00:08:43] I don't know. , I wish you didn't go sooner because we could have went and got a two for one and held each other's hand in the bed, yeah. We could, and we could have did the podcast. Yes. How many guys did a podcast when they get in a colonoscopy? At least two. [00:09:00] Unfortunately they knock you out.
[00:09:03] This might be a one man show
[00:09:07] so with the colonoscopy, you had to drink that made, made you very loose.
[00:09:13]Ed Sheehan: [00:09:13] Yes. Yeah. that drink , every year it gets better and better.
[00:09:18] You got these little vials, two little vials. you mix them with Eight ounces of what? Of 16 ounces of water you drink one the afternoon, before four 30, that afternoon, then you got to get up the next day Monday. You got to drink one at 4:30 AM the second one. Not that bad.
[00:09:39] The first one, real rough, not rough. It just, it works pretty quick. And then,
[00:09:47]
[00:09:47] you got a car service pick you up, take it in, drop you off. Blah, blah, blah.
[00:09:51]. Joe Sheehan: [00:09:52] so let me ask a question after you get it all done and said, does it take a while to get back to like normal or cause it cleans you completely [00:10:00] out, right?
[00:10:00] The juice.
[00:10:01] Ed Sheehan: [00:10:01] Yeah. I'll tell you something. It is something to say. About there's people that eat one meal a day and they have more energy. You sit there for awhile who got you hooked up to the blood pressure and stuff, I guess when your blood pressure and all the other stuff is okay, you could leave and you get home. You could walk around, but you're just like, Ugh. And then you sleep for a couple of hours and then the next day you wake up. I don't know what it was, but he can't do enough work. I'm, it's been a long time since I worked eight hours. I was out in the yard doing this down and I go can't believe all the shit I got done. So I think there's a lot to be said by not eating so much of which I, unfortunately they're not prescribed to, but whatever
[00:10:47]Joe Sheehan: [00:10:47] Yeah. I'm going to get one after. I'm going to do a whole bunch of stuff after what? I don't know, but that's where I'm stopping.
[00:10:55] Ed Sheehan: [00:10:55] what freaks you out?
[00:10:58] First time I went, no problem. [00:11:00] I think it was the second time he goes, Oh, come on in. I want to show you something. They take pictures inside the colon. And I said, what's that there, because I had to cut out a little polyp.
[00:11:14] I got a polyp. And what is this? Like , you're caught a shark or something or you anyway he was thrilled.
[00:11:22]then he comes by this time. He's a cool guy, Sam, and he goes, Good News!! No problem. Oh, okay. Thanks. There's a report. . There's pictures inside them.
[00:11:34]Joe Sheehan: [00:11:34] , I just don't like the part of going to sleep. You don't know what kind of funny business is happening? I don't know Sam's background, right?
[00:11:41] Ed Sheehan: [00:11:41] if it makes you feel any better, this is the fourth time I did it. I always felt good when I woke up.
[00:11:48] Joe Sheehan: [00:11:48] So this is the fourth time and you're still not pregnant. That's positive.
[00:11:55] Ed Sheehan: [00:11:55] no polyps anymore.
[00:11:56], there's a famous place in Brooklyn. it's a neighborhood [00:12:00] it's two or three blocks and Dyker Heights that does amazing Christmas light shows. ,
[00:12:05] one guy started it with his home. , one of his kids had some rare form of cancer and , they do it for Make-A-Wish and it's all for, giving
[00:12:14] back
[00:12:15] to certain charities. But we've been doing this since my kids were born. And before that, we did it sporadically.
[00:12:23] You walk around, some of the houses have Santa Claus, some of the houses have other characters. You take pictures with them. . They have a neighborhood choir's singing just really good time and we
[00:12:35] always look forward
[00:12:36] to it. , and then afterwards, We would go to a restaurant Tommaso's on 86th street,
[00:12:41] right?
[00:12:42] Maybe five minutes away. And, , the food there is good, but , they had singers like traditional, Italian opera singers. And we went there. My sister used to live there. So we went there once and the kids loved it. We loved it. and it became a tradition [00:13:00] sadly. Because of the masks and them having to wear a mask, they can't sing with the mask on.
[00:13:08] So there's no singers. So , I don't know if we're going to end up going there still. I spoke to our friend that recently retired in Florida. Yes. , I've been on the internet with them just recently.
[00:13:20] And, he was just telling me what Florida's and people are still being smart and whatnot, but he just said that they're handling it differently and they're not shutting everything down. And even though numbers are spiking, there they're spiking in a different way.
[00:13:35] how are they I spiking in a different way?
[00:13:38] you're not having as many intubations. You're not having as many people on, the respirators and breathing machines. , and I think it's more of a non at risk population from what I understand, like younger people but either way, it's very easy to play.
[00:13:56] Monday morning, quarterback after decisions are made. [00:14:00] First of all, you can't blame anybody for any decisions made between March 16th and June. Cause it was changing. We were learning about it every single day and there will be people blamed for it the same way it always happens, but people made the best decisions with the information they had and back then, especially everything was changing day to day.
[00:14:22] I want to know what ever happened to the theory of risk and reward.
[00:14:29]Joe Sheehan: [00:14:29] death is usually not part of the risk when you looking for a reward,
[00:14:33] Ed Sheehan: [00:14:33] but here let's talk about economics. Okay.
[00:14:37]You don't have to pay rent. You got no money. I understand that. But me as a landlord, what do I got to pay taxes? Then let's shut everything down. Listen 110%. And why is Congress still getting paid?
[00:14:55]I don't know what I'm going to talk to. My friend, Chuck Schumer. [00:15:00] There's a lot of things that don't make any sense So I hope this wakes the world up, but. thankfully we just get to sit and talk shits and giggles on this podcast and we don't have to make these decisions and we get to break some of the rules if as long as we don't get caught.
[00:15:17] Which we never do
[00:15:22] anyway, you, your Christmas present came today.
[00:15:25] Joe Sheehan: [00:15:25] Cool.
[00:15:27]Ed Sheehan: [00:15:27] And the dogs went after the guy he's wearing a red suit with a big white beard. What do you want for Christmas?
[00:15:35] I don't know. , I have everything good. How about a pipe?
[00:15:43] Oh my goodness. One of the guys that works for us, the kid from the Bronx, he smokes a pipe now, Oh, that's the guy. Nice guy friendly. He was sitting across from that guy, Nick? Yeah. Nick is his friend. He got Nick the
[00:15:58] job with
[00:15:59] him. [00:16:00] Oh, okay. So Nick got some interesting, , facial, yeah. It's not on
[00:16:09] his face
[00:16:10] thankfully, but, , that's what happens when your best friend is an aspiring tattoo artists and you are the, Canvas muse is
[00:16:23] the guy. That guy is a chef loves to cook and yeah, I do. He used to work for one of Bobby flays restaurants. Oh yeah. Yeah. obviously with COVID no more, he was doing, he was working for us part-time and for them full time. And now he's full-time with us.
[00:16:48] We spoke to Paul Giannamore yeah, because , him, thank you, Paul. I bought a bunch of Exxon stock. at 32 [00:17:00] lists? Last i I looked, it was a 41 and a pays almost 9% dividends cool dips again, I'm going to grab some
[00:17:06] more
[00:17:08] Joe Sheehan: [00:17:08] 9%. Dividend is good just for that.
[00:17:10] no shit. nine, 9%.
[00:17:18] eight years. Your money doubles at 9%. . Eight years eight, nine to 72. Magic number 72. Oh, you keep the money in there eight years and whatever you put in, as long as they keep, who the hell knows we could be at war with China, make COVID look like a piece of cake. Who the hell knows.
[00:17:45] Let's be more optimistic. We're going to crush it in 2002. Yes.
[00:17:50]Ed Sheehan: [00:17:50] The only thing I can think of that would rhyme is we're going to the zoo in 2002
[00:17:55] Joe Sheehan: [00:17:55] it's 2021. So can you fucking figure something out for you know, [00:18:00] 19 years after the one you just thought of 20, 22, 2021.
[00:18:09] Ed Sheehan: [00:18:09] So why does 20 to 19 years after 2021? You said we're going to the zoo in 2002. Oh, did I?
[00:18:19] Joe Sheehan: [00:18:19] Kings Harbor here we come!!! Holy shit. You know what the best thing about that? It doesn't matter because that's
[00:18:32] so natural and so fucking real. It is never not hilarious.
[00:18:38]Ed Sheehan: [00:18:38] . I, you know, I did that on purpose.
[00:18:47]Joe Sheehan: [00:18:47] Oh, King's Harbor.
[00:18:52] first. So it's good to be in.
[00:18:54] Ed Sheehan: [00:18:54] I was up there last week,
[00:18:58]Joe Sheehan: [00:18:58] checking out what beds were available. [00:19:00] I got that. No,
[00:19:00] Ed Sheehan: [00:19:00] I got the blueprints at a place. I know how to get out.
[00:19:03] Nice. Oh my goodness. so you saw that video the picture that . I sent you yesterday of the humpback whale with the frigging statue of Liberty, right?
[00:19:25]Joe Sheehan: [00:19:25] , I get that whole email from the good governor every Monday through Friday we're supposed to get like almost 200,000 vaccines. , and it's going to be frontline workers, truly healthcare. And half of that I think is going to go towards, , nursing, home staff and patients.
[00:19:43] Ed Sheehan: [00:19:43] right. Right. 200,000 is not that much.
[00:19:49] And how come England did it yesterday? We're America. What the hell we.
[00:19:55] Joe Sheehan: [00:19:55] I would imagine some of that goes to the highest bidder at this time. When [00:20:00] you, yeah. Personally, I don't really know. if, if, if you're a company and you made it here in America, I wouldn't allow you to ship it out. If I was the president.
[00:20:11] You can't ship it out of the country first. I agree with you in this case. my
[00:20:17] friend, , My friend, Norman's going to be the first online one. I got the
[00:20:22] word.
[00:20:23]if you just, , wait, for your regular doctor, you probably not going to get it until May or June.
[00:20:31] , but if you go to somebody like a heart specialist and he gives you a note saying, this guy needs it, you probably get it a lot quicker.
[00:20:41] I think I, so t uly at risk people should get it first period. No, that's what I'm saying though. if that's. If it's truly about saving human life, then that's how it goes.
[00:20:56]Ed Sheehan: [00:20:56] , I think you're [00:21:00] overlooking part of the people that they say were essential workers and really not politicians.
[00:21:08]Joe Sheehan: [00:21:08] politicians are essential in a sense that. They are making the decisions.
[00:21:13] the people aren't really making decisions. So if you lose one of them, somebody's got to step into place.
[00:21:20]Ed Sheehan: [00:21:20] I'm ready. I'm ready.
[00:21:24] Joe Sheehan: [00:21:24] I don't know if the fucking world is ready now
[00:21:29] and that's fine because they're super protected. They probably got innoculated fucking months ago. Anyway. So I got their colonoscopies yet colonoscopies and all of that, but, I don't know, it's a tough decision. I don't envy those making it
[00:21:46] because regardless of the decision they made, they're going to be criticized for it.
[00:21:54] listen, listen. at my theory of you're in [00:22:00] charge, you weigh all the facts as you see them and whatever the decision you make. Somebody's going to be, how could you do that? And there's going to be people say you made the right decision. You just have to go. What you felt at the time was the right decision.
[00:22:17] You know what never ceases to amaze me. certain issues. We are so opposite on, and we are both believe our points and we can't understand how the other really thinks differently. It just never ceases to amaze me how often that happens.
[00:22:36] Yeah. But we don't start cursing and rioting and stuff. If people disagree with us.
[00:22:40] Ooh, that's not true.
[00:22:42] You riot?
[00:22:44] No, but we curse. People ever saw you and I in a disagreement, would they think it was a riot going on?
[00:22:57] Ed Sheehan: [00:22:57] No, just maybe, [00:23:00] no, you need more than two people for a riot.
[00:23:04]Joe Sheehan: [00:23:04] Okay. Here's a better question. Would they call the cops? Probably. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, it just it's
[00:23:14] Ed Sheehan: [00:23:14] and I would do exactly what the cop said
[00:23:17] you would. Yeah, I don't know about that. Put your hands up, lay down, whatever. I
[00:23:24] wouldn't
[00:23:24] try.
[00:23:25] Joe Sheehan: [00:23:25] First thing I would say to the cops is get the fuck away from us as a family matter. I
[00:23:30] Ed Sheehan: [00:23:30] would say I would engage
[00:23:32] the cops in a more
[00:23:33] political, conversation,
[00:23:36] Joe Sheehan: [00:23:36] but you , you had great experiences with the police as a child.
[00:23:40] Ed Sheehan: [00:23:40] Yeah was cause I had rosary beads in my pocket and they always let me go
[00:23:45] Joe Sheehan: [00:23:45] anyway we're from two different times.
[00:23:47] But , we won't get too crazy about that. so all right.
[00:23:52] I'll get up and come by you . I'll help you move the fucking thing. You made me
[00:23:56] move back.
[00:23:58] Ed Sheehan: [00:23:58] excuse me. [00:24:00] The fucking thing that you helped me move. We moved it together.
[00:24:05] We moved it together. Ladies and gentlemen, he went and got the contraption. I did all the heavy lifting
[00:24:11] and this mechanism that picked up this gigantic pot clamped on it,
[00:24:16]Joe Sheehan: [00:24:16] What did you need me for then?
[00:24:17] Ed Sheehan: [00:24:17] Because you had to push on the other to get it lifted.
[00:24:21] Joe Sheehan: [00:24:21] You know what, and yeah. I'll let you go with your story. Fuck it. Yes.
[00:24:25] Ed Sheehan: [00:24:25] listen, I I see you're hu rt. I couldn't have done it without you.
[00:24:30]Joe Sheehan: [00:24:30] That's right. All right. Listen, I actually got to go do some work.
[00:24:37]Ed Sheehan: [00:24:37] I'm I'm mailing out Christmas cards now. .
[00:24:39] Mr. & Mrs. America and all the ships at sea Ed Sheehan for Colony Confidential. Thank you for once again for listening to this riotous chat.
[00:24:48] stay safe
[00:24:49] out
